We Accept Most Major Plans

For the convenience of our patients, we accept most major dental insurance plans, including:

  • Aetna
  • Ameritas
  • Cigna
  • Delta Dental
  • Denali Dental
  • Humana
  • Guardian
  • Spirit
  • UnitedHealthOne

Because insurance plans vary, Dr. Rivera may or may not be considered an “in-network” provider. If George Rivera, DDS is not in your network, we will do what we can to work with your budget.

Insurance Coverage Basics

Generally, dental insurance plans cover a portion of the costs of preventive care, fillings, crowns, and other procedures. Some plans may also cover dentures and bridges, orthodontics, or periodontics.

Many dental insurance plans provide a 100-80-50 coverage structure, meaning they may cover 100 percent of preventive care, 80 percent of basic procedures, and 50 percent of major procedures. However, an insurance plan may also not cover any major procedures like oral surgery or certain treatments like sealants.

Again, the details are entirely dependent upon the type of insurance plan you have and your family’s unique needs.

Questions About Dental Insurance? We Can Help!

It’s our goal to help you receive the high-quality dental care you deserve. If you have any questions about treatment, costs, or dental insurance, please don’t hesitate to call our dental office.

We understand that some patients may feel afraid or anxious about their dental visit. Because your comfort is important to us, we provide different techniques to help you relax during your treatment.

One of the ways we help nervous patients relax is by using noninvasive sedation dentistry. We use The Wand for single tooth anesthesia and oral sedation when requested.

  • The Wand is a slender, probe-like tool that delivers anesthesia to one specific tooth, inhibiting the patient from feeling pain or discomfort during treatment. No one enjoys getting poked and prodded, especially when they’re sitting in a dental chair. The Wand eliminates our reliance on anesthetic syringes of the past.

  • Prescribed by your physician or dentist, oral sedation typically comes in pill form and stays in the body’s system longer than single tooth anesthesia.

Compassionate and Gentle Dentistry

The last thing we want to do is push our patients to their limit or upset them. We simply want the best for your health, and we will never make you feel obligated or pressured into treatment.

To learn more about how we manage dental anxiety, contact one of our care team members.

George Rivera, DDS is committed to upholding CDC and OSHA guidelines for the safety of our patients and staff. We have always followed these guidelines and will continue to follow them, as well as take extra precautions to ensure our patients and staff are protected from potential health risks.

Safety Equipment and Sanitation

Our dental team wears personal protective equipment (PPE) and has implemented safety measures such as social distancing, requiring masks or face coverings in our building, and regularly cleaning our dental practice.

We use medical-grade disinfectants to sanitize all treatment rooms and common areas. George Rivera, DDS also has excellent air filtration, so everyone who enters our office can breathe clean air.

We kindly ask that patients:

  • Agree to a brief health assessment before check-in (temperature check, short questionnaire).
  • Limit additional visitors from accompanying you during your visit.
  • Practice social distancing in our facility.
  • Wear a face covering or mask when not receiving treatment.

Dental Aerosol Extractors

In response to COVID-19, we have started using more advanced infection control procedures, including dental aerosol extractors. This technology keeps our patients and staff protected from airborne pathogens and bacteria and improves the air quality in the room. Dental aerosol extractors use high evacuation suction to eliminate excess moisture and spatter during treatment.

If you have questions about our safety procedures regarding COVID-19, please call our dental office. Our team is on standby to answer any of your questions or address your concerns.

Children's Dentistry

Yes, we do see children! George Rivera, DDS accepts patients of all ages and at every stage of life. Whether you just celebrated your child’s first birthday or your teen would like an Invisalign smile, our team can help you.

Children at every age need professional dental care to ensure their oral health is exactly where it needs to be. Every infant, toddler, child, and teen should receive routine dental exams and teeth cleanings, as well as practice good oral hygiene habits at home.

Infants and Toddlers

We recommend bringing your child to our office when their first tooth erupts or no later than their first birthday. During their first visit, we introduce ourselves and make you and your child feel safe and comfortable. We typically check their teeth and gums, as well as review at-home care with parents.

School-Age Children

As your child continues to grow, we make sure their teeth and jaws are properly positioned. We also check for signs of decay and any other conditions or abnormalities.

Teenagers

Teenagers receive similar care to that of adults. Your teen may need a deep dental cleaning, alternative orthodontics like Invisalign, or a restorative treatment for a tooth they injured during a sporting event at school.

Schedule Your Child’s Appointment Today!

The cornerstone of our practice is to provide education, exceptional care, and support to our young patients as they continue to grow. Call us today to schedule your child’s next dental visit.

While the American Dental Association suggests that your child’s first visit come with their first tooth erupts, we recommend that you consider their oral health even as infants. For example, even before teeth are visible, your baby’s gums are exposed to plaque-causing bacteria, fed by formula, breast milk, or drinks other than the water you provide for your child. You can gently clean their gums with a piece of gauze or a soft, infant washcloth around your finger.

These practices are not only good for your child’s oral health, but they also make it normal for you to look at the inside of their mouth or touch their gums and teeth. The intent is that when they do visit Dr. Rivera for the first time, they are already accustomed to an examination of their teeth.

After Your Child’s First Dental Visit

We strongly recommend that you remain proactive with your child’s teeth through regular visits and an excellent home-care routine. Dr. Rivera can help predict specific issues by watching how your child’s teeth come in. If they are more susceptible to tooth decay, he can recognize that and help with preventive treatments like fluoride and dental sealants.

We believe in establishing good oral health habits that will last a lifetime, so we focus on prevention, at-home care, and patient education.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Dental bonding is a cosmetic dentistry treatment that addresses tooth surface flaws in the same way as a porcelain veneer without being as invasive. Your Oakbrook Terrace dentist uses the same composite resin materials as tooth-colored fillings, tinted to match your tooth shade.

To cover various tooth flaws, we sculpt the resin material and harden it with a special curing light. This process creates a stable and attractive restoration that has a lifespan of years.

Caring for your dental bonding treatment includes a good brushing and flossing routine and avoiding excessive hard or sticky foods like nuts or candy. It may remain for five years or longer if you prevent undue damage to your bonding treatment.

What Does Dental Bonding Correct?

Dr. Rivera will recommend dental bonding for tooth surface flaws, including stains or discoloration that resists professional teeth whitening treatments. Here are some problems solved by tooth bonding:

  • Tooth chips
  • Oddly shaped tooth
  • Minor gaps between teeth
  • Tooth enamel damage
  • Yellowing from thinning tooth enamel or intrinsic stains

Cosmetic dentistry offers numerous solutions if you’re excited about improving your smile. Our goal is to help you regain your self-confidence with a smile that looks as healthy as possible. To learn more about our cosmetic services or to schedule a consultation.

Crowns and Bridges

A dental crown is a time-tested dental restoration meant to cover a damaged tooth to protect it. Dentists in the past used tooth crowns made from metal, especially gold, which was very durable but lacked many other qualities. More recently, dental crowns are typically made from ceramic porcelain and sometimes zirconia, sacrificing a small amount of strength for a much more natural appearance.

So because a crown completely caps a tooth, it may be the last opportunity for us to save your natural tooth. Here are some of the most common uses for a dental crown:

  • The tooth has too many large fillings to remain intact
  • Finishes a tooth treated with root canal therapy
  • Support for a tooth that attaches to a dental bridge
  • Conceals a chipped, cracked, or discolored tooth
  • Completes a dental implant

Dr. Rivera will examine your teeth thoroughly, using digital x-rays and other imagery to determine your need for a dental crown. Then, he will take an impression so that your new crown matches the tooth it restores precisely. This information is sent to an outside dental lab specializing in creating high-quality tooth replacement options for each patient.

When your tooth crown is ready, we will prepare your existing tooth as a foundation, and then we cement the dental crown, ensuring that it fits seamlessly.

Dental crowns and fillings are both excellent options for repairing teeth that are decayed or broken. A dental filling is meant to restore a small area of your tooth that's been damaged by decay, while a crown fills in where a filling can't, by completely covering the damaged tooth to restore it.

We can typically complete a dental filling during one appointment, while a crown takes two visits and a dental lab to create Dr. Rivera's design. During the first appointment, Dr. Rivera prepares your tooth for its restoration, and he makes a temporary one you can wear while the dental lab completes your final crown. This process can take anywhere from one to three weeks to complete.

A dental crown in Chicago provides the same strength, function, and aesthetics you had before your tooth became compromised. This is why a dental crown costs more than a filling. The procedure is more involved and requires a dental lab to create the final restoration. It is also a more extensive, detailed restoration that closely mimics your natural tooth.

Digital X-Rays

Modern digital x-rays in Oakbrook Terrace, IL, emit far less radiation than their ancestor, the radiograph. With digital x-rays, your exposure is equal to about an hour in the sun.

Additionally, you’ll likely not have x-rays at every dental visit. If nothing is suspicious during your exam and you have no complaints about tooth pain or other changes, your dentist may forgo x-rays until your next dental checkup.

Periodic x-rays have been deemed medically safe for adults and children alike. And without occasional x-rays, you can have a potential issue that worsens over time because it isn’t diagnosed.

Other Benefits of Digital X-Rays Near Me

Digital x-rays offer a clearer image for your dentist, aiding in diagnostics and treatment planning. And they can be resized for even better viewing.

Finally, we store digital x-rays electronically, requiring no chemicals or paper to produce, making them better for the environment. Additional benefits to digital storing include sharing x-rays electronically with insurance providers and select labs and specialists. And digital x-rays are stored safely and permanently transferable.

If you have additional questions about our x-rays or dental technologies, we encourage you to contact a dental team member. We’re always happy to educate patients about our dentistry!

Invisalign®

Invisalign is an advanced orthodontic system that uses plastic aligner trays to straighten teeth. Before you can begin using Invisalign, Dr. Rivera will perform a smile evaluation to determine if this treatment is right for you.

iTero Digital Impressions

If you are a good candidate for Invisalign, Dr. Rivera will then use the iTero scanner to digitally map out your mouth’s unique structure. The iTero scanner is comfortable and safe to use, and it essentially takes a digital impression of your teeth. Dr. Rivera uses these digital impressions to create your Invisalign trays. Once you receive your custom-made trays, you can begin your treatment!

Invisalign Works in a Series

Invisalign uses a series of trays to gradually align your teeth into their ideal position. The trays should be changed out every two to three weeks, depending on your specific treatment plan. Each new set of aligners in the series will fit more snugly, slowly working their magic on your smile.

Treatment Time and Rules of Wear

Treatment time and frequency of wear vary per patient, but it’s recommended that you wear your aligners 20-22 hours each day for optimal results. Unlike traditional metal braces, you can remove your trays to eat and clean your teeth.

Are You Ready for a Straighter Smile?

A straighter smile can do wonders for your oral health and your self-esteem. Contact us today to schedule your Invisalign consultation.

Invisalign is the most popular transparent orthodontic system out there. It is the one patients ask for by name, and we are proud to offer it in our dental office.

Invisalign in Oakbrook Terrace, IL, is a series of clear aligners customized to fit your teeth. You move through the provided aligners until you’ve finished your supply. This milestone marks the end of treatment. And over the weeks and months, you’ll notice your teeth lining up and moving into the desired positions.

After treatment, we provide you with a custom aligner to keep your teeth in these new positions by preventing orthodontic relapse.

As far as how long you’ll be in treatment, this is different for everyone. Some patients with more severe orthodontic issues can spend up to two years wearing their aligners. The timeline can be several months or longer than one year for others.

After examining your bite and related orthodontic issues, your dentist can answer this question during your Invisalign consultation.

Minimally Invasive Dentistry

Minimally invasive dentistry describes a different approach to dental restorations that focuses on using more conservative methods to save as much natural tooth material as possible. Along with a foundation of preventive dentistry, the goal is early detection of a dental issue, like a cavity, that can result in a smaller-scale treatment.

But in cases where tooth damage is too extensive, we can avoid replacing the tooth or compromising what is left using the Bioclear Method. We use this treatment to restore worn, broken, or discolored teeth.

The Bioclear system provides a specialized composite material similar to that used for tooth-colored fillings and dental bonding with added ingredients to support its application. We use unique injection molding techniques to cover a compromised tooth with denser composites that more thoroughly fill your natural tooth material.

How Bioclear Differs from Dental Veneers

The differences between the Bioclear Method and the application of a dental veneer illustrate the ideas behind minimally invasive dentistry. Each method restores a tooth with surface damage, but a dental veneer requires that we remove a portion of your tooth enamel so the veneer fits smoothly onto your tooth.

A Bioclear restoration does not require that we remove any tooth material because your repair is molded over your natural tooth. So as each restoration ages over years and even decades, a dental veneer will always need to be replaced because of the material removed during its placement. A Bioclear restoration leaves your natural tooth more intact for future flexibility.

Preventive Care

Flossing at least once daily helps keep your teeth and mouth clean and bacteria-free. Flossing is essential because your toothbrush can't reach between your teeth, where plaque can actually build up and cause tooth decay and cavities.

Flossing at night is ideal because it removes the day's plaque buildup from meals and leaves you with a fresh mouth while you sleep.

Flossers or strings of floss are both effective for removing plaque. If you choose to use a string of floss, secure it by gently wrapping it around one finger from each hand so you can hold it taut in between. Then in a c-shape motion, gently slide the floss around each tooth, using a clean piece each time.

Combine your daily flossing with brushing twice a day, and you'll have a consistent home care routine that protects your teeth from problems like tooth decay and gum disease. Bi-annual visits to your Oakbrook Terrace dentist will also protect your oral health. These visits are also an excellent opportunity to get tips on brushing and flossing techniques to ensure you're doing the best job you can brushing and flossing at home.

Is it time for your next dental visit? Contact your Chicago dentist at (630) 592-4929 to schedule your next appointment.

Brushing your teeth twice daily is one of the best ways to protect your smile and oral health. However, some of our patients wonder which type of toothbrush is best to use, and the answer is that, like anything, both have pros and cons.

Your Chicago dentist recommends brushing for two minutes twice daily, whether you're using a manual or electric toothbrush.

Using a manual toothbrush is effective if you're employing proper brushing techniques. Carefully moving the brush in circles over your teeth's front, back, and chewing surfaces, being gentle around the gumline is the best way to use a manual toothbrush.

An electric toothbrush is great because it does a lot of the hard work for you. All you have to do is gently hold the brush and glide it along the front, back, and chewing surfaces of your teeth, spending 30 seconds in each quadrant of your mouth, which the brush will time for you. Most electric toothbrushes will also alert you if you're pressing too hard so you can avoid damage to your delicate gum tissue.

If you have questions about proper brushing and flossing techniques or other aspects of your dental health, we welcome your call to our Oakbrook Terrace dental office at (630) 592-4949.
