Minimally Invasive Dentistry in Oakbrook Terrace
At George Rivera, DDS, we believe the best dentistry is the least amount of dentistry possible. Advances in our field have allowed Dr. Rivera and our team to perform minimally invasive dentistry (MID) to increase patient comfort and perform more precise and less destructive procedures.
What Exactly Is MID?
MID is a philosophy and a technique that focuses on treating conditions like dental caries with as little change to the tooth’s natural structure as possible. This approach ensures that a patient’s teeth are kept functional for life. With MID, we can preserve tooth structure while still providing our patients with the treatment they need, whether it be cavity care, periodontology, or oral rehabilitation.
Our MID Philosophy
At George Rivera, DDS, Dr. Rivera uses a surgical microscope for increased precision during treatment, and it assists in the early detection of tooth decay. By removing as little of the tooth structure as possible, MID effectively treats and prevents tooth decay (dental caries). Dr. Rivera believes in treating patients with as much efficiency and precision as possible. As such, he strives to use innovative techniques and materials to promote minimally invasive dental procedures.
Early Detection and Prevention
Early detection of dental caries and other dental conditions leads to early prevention or intervention. In addition to traditional x-rays, we use other methods to detect and treat tooth decay early, such as laser dentistry and microscopic dentistry. MID is effective restorative dentistry that can help keep your teeth healthier for much longer than more destructive techniques in the past.
MID also changes how we repair affected teeth. For example, we use advanced, tooth-colored materials for bonding and fillings that are stronger and less invasive than other materials like metal amalgam.

Tooth decay occurs when bacteria permanently damages the teeth, creating tiny holes in the tooth structure. Brushing with fluoride toothpaste and flossing between your teeth helps eliminate cavity-causing bacteria from forming.
